Superchargers have an advantage over turbochargers, and that advantage is no lag. Turbochargers, on the other hand, have an advantage over superchargers: their drive does not take power from the engine.
Many manufacturers have used either one or the other in both race machines and street bikes, and occasionally one of the early bikes will come up for auction. And so it is with BMW's RS255 racer of 1939.
Auctioneers Bonhams Ltd. will offer one of the rare BMW racers at their Las Vegas auction in early 2013. In addition, the company has three other early BMW racers from the same collection: a 1954 BMW RS 254, a 1954 BMW RS 254 with Sidecar, and a 1956 BMW RS 256.
